Dokolo, Uganda – Joseph Jones Ogwal, a leading contender for the Dokolo North parliamentary seat in 2026, has reignited community optimism by pledging to deliver on previously delayed initiatives aimed at environmental conservation and girls’ education.
Speaking during the Christmas Tournament final at Igar Primary School on December 25, 2024, Ogwal revisited two projects he had announced in 2023, the planting of trees at Igar Primary School and the distribution of sanitary pads to schoolgirls across Dokolo North.
Ogwal attributed the delay in the tree-planting initiative to logistical challenges.
“Last year, the tree seedlings were ready, but the headteacher, who was responsible for designating the planting area, was unavailable as he was pursuing studies at Gulu University. By the time arrangements could be finalized, the planting season had passed,” Ogwal explained.
He called on Igar Primary School administrators to collaborate with Bosco Adoko, the Local Council III chairperson of Dokolo Subcounty, to allocate land for the project.
“Once the land is identified, I will ensure the seedlings are provided. The Dokolo Green Project is a priority in my mission to make Dokolo North greener and more sustainable,” he said.
Ogwal also addressed the delay in his promise to supply sanitary pads to schoolgirls, an initiative he considers crucial for keeping girls in school.
“The lack of coordinators was the major hindrance, but I’ve now appointed Eunice and Priscilla to lead the distribution efforts. Together, we will ensure this project reaches every corner of Dokolo North,” he pledged.

During the tournament, which saw Awiri triumph over Acanpii in a tense penalty shootout, Ogwal highlighted the importance of community-driven development.
“Through sports, we unite, and through shared initiatives, we grow. These projects are just the beginning of my vision for Dokolo North’s brighter future,” he remarked.
Residents praised Ogwal’s renewed commitment, expressing hope that his leadership could bring meaningful change to the constituency.
