Lira, Uganda | The clan leader of Araki Okwer-Alwala and former Dokolo South Member of Parliament, Felix Okot Ogong, has dismissed reports suggesting that he is positioning himself to become the next Paramount Chief of the Lango Cultural Foundation.
Speaking during an interview with our publication, Okot Ogong said he has no intention of contesting for the position previously held by the late Yosam Odur Ebii, describing the claims as unfounded speculation.
He said his immediate priority is to foster unity among the people of Lango and contribute to the region’s social and economic development rather than engage in succession politics within the cultural institution.
Okot Ogong noted that while the aspiration to serve as Paramount Chief could arise in the future, it is not among his current ambitions.
According to him, Lango still faces a number of challenges that require focused leadership and collective effort to address. He said the region needs leaders who are committed to advancing development initiatives, strengthening cultural values, and advocating for the interests of the people.
The former legislator argued that efforts should be directed towards addressing the welfare concerns of the population and promoting the region’s development before discussions about cultural succession are entertained.
He also expressed concern over what he described as inadequate representation of Lango in the recent ministerial appointments made by the Government, saying the development highlights the need for continued advocacy to ensure the region’s voice is heard at the national level.
Okot Ogong’s remarks come amid growing speculation that some supporters of the late Paramount Chief Yosam Odur Ebii are considering possible successors who could eventually take over leadership of the Lango Cultural Foundation.
However, his latest statement appears to rule him out of any immediate contest for the cultural institution’s top seat, as he insists his focus remains on uniting the people of Lango and supporting the region’s development agenda.
