Oyam District Cracks Down on Missing and Misused Government Assets

Oyam, Uganda– In an effort to restore accountability, Oyam District’s Works and Technical Services department is on a mission to recover government vehicles, motorcycles, and equipment left out of service due to mechanical breakdowns or other conditions.

Hon. Billy Otoo, the District Councilor for Otwal Sub-County and Secretary for Works and Technical Services, revealed alarming findings during a recent inspection of the district’s disposal yard.

Otoo, a distinguished journalist in Lango sub-region, disclosed that several government vehicles and motorcycles listed as out of service were missing from the yard.

Otoo issued a stern warning to civil servants suspected of hiding government properties for personal gain.

Hon. Benson Walter Dila Oyuku, the Oyam District Chairperson, echoed Otoo’s concerns.

He confirmed plans to retrieve and officially auction all out-of-service government assets to generate funds for the district’s development initiatives.

Oyam district has intensified its crackdown on misuse of government assets and the leadership is committed to fostering integrity and maximizing the value of public resources to benefit the people of Oyam.
