Oyam District Warns Schools on Unapproved Boarding Sections

Oyam, Uganda – Oyam District Department of Education has warned school administrators who want to run boarding sections to follow the rules set by the Ministry of Education.

These rules aim to keep students safe and well-cared for in boarding schools.

The Ministry of Education says any school that wants to have a boarding section must be registered and approved, whether it is private or public.

In Oyam District, only two schools – Iceme Girls SS and Ngai SS – meet the required standards for boarding.

All other schools are only allowed to operate as day schools.

David Adea, the District Education Officer of Oyam, has asked school administrators who want to start boarding sections to apply and wait for approval.

He also mentioned that some schools, like Okule Primary School, may have to close their boarding sections because they do not meet the required standards.

By enforcing these rules, the Ministry of Education wants to make schools safer and fair for all students.

Oyam District has 109 Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools, 217 private primary schools, three government-aided schools and six private institutions.
