Dokolo, Uganda | Police in Dokolo District are investigating a road crash involving a vehicle reportedly attached to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in Kaberamaido, which left at least two people injured.

The crash occurred on Monday at about 11:45pm at Alanyi B Village, Akolodong Parish, Amwoma Sub-county along the Dokolo–Lira road.

Dokolo District Police Commander (DPC) Patience Bangazi said the accident involved a blue Isuzu tipper lorry, registration number UAR 193Z, and a white Toyota Hilux double-cabin pickup, registration number UG 2600178T.

“The two vehicles were travelling from Dokolo towards Lira City when the Toyota Hilux reportedly rammed into the tipper lorry from behind,” Bangazi said in an interview on Tuesday.

He said police had opened investigations into the incident and that two of the injured victims were rushed to Dokolo Health Centre IV for treatment.

Police identified one of the injured as Gloria Amuge, 27, a resident of Ober-Entebbe in Lira City, who was travelling in the Toyota Hilux.

The pickup was reportedly being driven by a man identified as John Ogole, said to be attached to the DPP office in Kaberamaido.

The occupants of the tipper lorry were identified as Ivan Ocen, 24, the driver, and Peter Ogwal, 38, both residents of Adeknino Parish, Adeknino Sub-county.

By press time, Amuge and Ocen were still admitted at Dokolo Health Centre IV.

Speaking from her hospital bed, Amuge claimed she had been travelling with the driver of the Toyota Hilux, whom she described as her boyfriend.

She alleged that the man had picked her from her home in Lira City on Monday night for a trip to Kaberamaido.

However, she said the two developed a disagreement after the driver allegedly offered her alcohol, which she refused to take.

“He became angry after I refused to drink,” she said, adding that the driver later abandoned the trip to Kaberamaido and instead turned back towards Lira.

Amuge further alleged that the driver was speeding and appeared agitated shortly before the crash occurred at Rego-Rego Trading Centre in Amwoma Sub-county.

Ocen, the driver of the tipper lorry, said the Toyota Hilux hit his vehicle from behind while allegedly attempting to overtake.

He said he sustained injuries to his left arm and leg in the crash.

Police said the driver of the Toyota Hilux had not yet been traced by the time this report was filed.

Bangazi said investigations were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
