Power Crisis Tops Agenda as MP-Elect Joseph Jones Ogwal Unveils Development Plan at Adok Easter Cup Finale

Dokolo, Uganda | Leaders in Adok Subcounty, Dokolo District, have renewed calls for improved electricity connectivity, identifying it as a key bottleneck to socio-economic transformation in the area.

Speaking during the grand finale of the Easter Cup 2026 tournament on Sunday at Adok Primary School, LCIII Chairperson Rubby Ogwali appealed to MP-elect Joseph Jones Ogwal to prioritise the extension of power once he assumes office next month. He described electricity as the subcounty’s most pressing challenge, noting that reliable access would spur business growth and improve livelihoods.

Ogwali, however, commended MP-elect for his contribution to sports development in Dokolo District, saying such initiatives have helped nurture young talent and unite communities. He urged residents to give full support to the incoming legislator over the next five years.

In response, Joseph Jones Ogwal said he had already engaged the Ministry of Energy on the matter, explaining that although Adok Subcounty is connected to the national grid, it still requires last-mile connections to extend power to various trading centres. He noted that the existing infrastructure only needs expansion to reach more communities.

Ogwal also outlined a raft of development plans, including forming the Dokolo North United football team to compete in the regional league, which he said would promote unity, nurture talent, and create opportunities for the youth. He further revealed that construction of Adok Seed Secondary School is expected to commence in the next financial year with support from the World Bank, and pledged to support women’s groups to improve household incomes and strengthen community development.

The Easter Cup 2026 tournament attracted teams from different parishes across the subcounty, with both boys’ and girls’ categories showcasing competitive football. In the girls’ category, Amonolocoo Parish defeated Odeo Parish 2–0 to be crowned champions, while Adok Parish emerged champions in the boys’ category after a 2–1 victory over Odeo Parish.

Winners in the boys’ category walked away with sh300,000 and a set of branded jerseys, while runners-up received sh250,000 and other participating teams were awarded sh200,000 each. In the girls’ category, champions received sh150,000 and jerseys, runners-up sh130,000, and other teams sh100,000 each. Top scorers in both categories will also be rewarded with football boots.

The tournament climax coincided with Easter Sunday, which fell on April 5 this year, marking one of the most significant celebrations on the Christian calendar.
