Truck Drivers Ambushed on Lira-Kamdini Highway

Loading

The highway robbery along the Lira-Kamdini highway on a truck transporting goods is still a big concern for the security team in the district along that highway.

Reports indicate that on that highway, where construction work is mostly happening from Kole district to Oyam district, the same group of suspected thieves takes advantage of opportunities when truck drivers lower their speed. They jump into the truck, open the goods’ seal, remove the goods, and then disappear with them.

This week, more than five cases were reported at Kamdini police station, mostly involving trucks transporting goods such as cement, drinks, and fresh vegetables.

William Komakech, RDC of Oyam district, confirmed the cases and stated that his office is coordinating with their counterparts in Kole district and Lira to address the issues.

He says they have started patrolling the highway at night to arrest the robbers, but none of them have been apprehended yet, despite the presence of security officers on the ground.
