Kampala, Uganda | Police at Uganda Police Force in Wandegeya are holding two suspects in connection with the murder of a 34-year-old man whose body was discovered near Dusuma Garage in Kalerwe.
The deceased, identified only as Kabugo, was a resident of Kalerwe, a suburb of Kampala.
The suspects, identified as Ssebuya and Johnson, are currently detained at Wandegeya Police Division as investigations continue.
According to preliminary police findings, authorities received information at about 8am on Monday regarding a body lying near the fence of Dusuma Garage.
Officers promptly responded to the scene and deployed the police canine unit to aid investigations.
At the scene, a police sniffer dog named Pepper was introduced to the area of crime.
The dog reportedly picked up a scent from the body and began tracking.
Investigators said the canine first tracked for approximately 10 metres before entering the house of the garage’s security guard (askari).
The dog later exited the house and continued tracking within the garage premises, moving along the fence before returning inside.
Pepper eventually led officers to a specific spot inside the garage where the security guard and other workers reportedly sit during working hours.
The dog signalled the presence of possible evidence by lying down at the location.
Police said a metal bar with visible blood stains was recovered at the spot.
The object is believed to have been used to assault the deceased.
A subsequent search of the askari’s house led to the recovery of spears and arrows, which police said are being examined as part of the ongoing investigations.
Police have not yet disclosed the possible motive behind the killing.
The body was taken for postmortem examination as detectives continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident.
