MITAYANA – Tensions flared in Mityana District as unknown assailants attacked the home of Deputy Resident Commissioner (RDC) Prossy Mwanjuzi, setting her vehicle ablaze on Friday night.

The incident, which occurred in Mizigo B Cell, Busimbi Division, is believed to be connected to ongoing land disputes in the area.
Speaking to the press, Mwanjuzi recounted the terrifying ordeal, in which the attackers demanded that she come out of her home around 2 am, intending to harm her. Upon her refusal, they set fire to her Toyota Surf, parked in the compound. The quick response of neighbors helped to extinguish the blaze.
Mwanjuzi believes that her involvement in addressing land disputes as the RDC may have motivated the attack. Despite repeated requests for security, she claims to have received no assistance from authorities.
The attack occurred on the same day as the burial of Mityana District youth councilor and lawyer, Mahad Gumira, who was killed last Sunday under similar circumstances.
Regional Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala confirmed the incident, stating that the attackers initially attempted to start Mwanjuzi’s vehicle before torching it.
A police canine unit was dispatched to the scene, tracking the assailants to the main road before losing the trail, indicating that they may have used a motorcycle or other means to escape.
As police continue their investigation, Mwanjuzi remains steadfast in her commitment to bring the perpetrators to justice and address the ongoing land disputes plaguing Mityana District.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by those seeking to protect the rights of citizens in the face of violence and corruption.
