Namutumba, Uganda – A fatal road crash claimed two lives and left eight others injured on the night of March 25, 2025, at Mazuba, Maganda Subcounty, along the Iganga-Mbale Highway in Namutumba District.

The accident involved three vehicles: a Tata Lorry (UBQ 901S), a Toyota Hiace (UBJ 358P), and an unidentified vehicle.
Preliminary police investigations indicate that the Toyota Hiace, moving at high speed, attempted to overtake the lorry.
In a desperate move to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle, the Hiace driver swerved dangerously close to the lorry.
This manoeuvre caused the lorry’s front driver’s corner to shear off the Hiace’s roof, sending the Hiace into multiple rolls before coming to a devastating halt.
Two passengers aboard the Toyota Hiace died on the spot, while eight others sustained serious injuries.
Emergency responders rushed the injured victims to Iganga Hospital for urgent medical attention. The bodies of the deceased were taken to the hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
Authorities have confirmed that the driver of the Toyota Hiace fled the scene and remains at large. Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect as investigations into the tragic incident continue.
This crash adds to the growing number of road fatalities linked to reckless driving, with high speed and dangerous overtaking being major contributors.
The Uganda Police Force has once again urged all motorists to prioritize safety, adhere to speed limits, and exercise caution while overtaking to prevent further loss of lives.
Authorities continue to emphasize the need for stricter enforcement of road safety measures, including enhanced surveillance and harsher penalties for traffic offenders, as the community mourns the loss of loved ones.
This tragic accident serves as a wake-up call for all road users to drive responsibly, value human life, and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future.
