Otuke, Uganda | The Government of Uganda has disbursed UGX 125 million to organised groups of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) and older persons in Otuke District to support income-generating activities and improve household livelihoods.

Speaking on behalf of the Otuke Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Francis Okwameri, the Assistant RDC, Isaac Opio Opeo, said the funds have been allocated to 20 beneficiary groups, with each group receiving UGX 5 million, bringing the total disbursement to UGX 125 million.

According to Opio Opeo, the first groups to benefit under the programme are Abalero PWD Group and Te-Gweng Elders Group, with more eligible groups expected to receive support.

He said the funding is part of the government’s broader wealth creation agenda initiated by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, aimed at ensuring that vulnerable groups are not left behind in national development.

He noted that the programme complements other government initiatives, such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, which are intended to fight poverty and improve household incomes.

Beneficiaries welcomed the financial support, describing it as a significant boost to their economic empowerment.

Martha Amule, a resident of Acake Village, Okwongo Town Council in Otuke District and a member of the Par-Pi-Awoti PWDs Group, thanked the government for extending financial assistance to persons with disabilities, saying the funds will help members invest in productive ventures and improve their standards of living.

Similarly, Moses Obua, Chairperson of Konyere-Kena PWD Group and a resident of Awaka Village in Alula Parish, Olilim Sub-county, pledged that beneficiaries would use the money responsibly to establish sustainable income-generating projects.

According to district officials, the latest disbursement comprises UGX 100 million for persons with disabilities and UGX 25 million for elderly groups, bringing the total government support released under the programme in Otuke District to UGX 125 million.
