Kalaki, Uganda – The Uganda Police Force has opened investigations into the suspected murder of Dr. Wilfred Olila, a respected lecturer at Soroti University and ENT specialist at Lira Regional Referral Hospital, whose body was found under suspicious circumstances in Kalaki District.
Dr. Olila’s body was discovered on January 17, 2025, along the Otuboi-Abalanga road in Ogolai village, Ogwolo sub-county.
The incident, registered under CRB 023/2025 at Kalaki Central Police Station, has drawn national attention and raised serious concerns about the safety of professionals in Uganda.
East Kyoga Regional Police Commander (RPC) Damalie Nachuha revealed that the body bore signs of extreme violence.
His hands and legs were tied and dried blood covered his face. A blood-soaked bandage wrapped around his head indicated severe trauma.
The body, clad in a blue Uganda Medical Association (UMA) T-shirt, grey trousers and black socks, was dumped at the scene, suggesting foul play.
Officers from Otuboi Police Station, led by Detective Inspector of Police (D/IP) Opallet Martin, responded to the scene after the discovery was reported at 9:50 PM.
The body was transported to Kaberamaido Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the precise cause of death.
Dr. Olila, a veteran medical practitioner, graduated from Makerere University with an MBChB in 1984 and an MMed in ENT in 2008.
His career spanned decades of service in clinical practice, academia and private initiatives aimed at improving healthcare delivery.
Known for his dedication to mentorship, he played a pivotal role in training future medical professionals.
The brutal killing of Dr. Olila has left the medical and academic communities in shock.
Colleagues and advocacy groups have condemned the act, describing it as a heinous crime against a man who dedicated his life to healing and education.
Police have not yet identified suspects, but investigations are ongoing. Authorities have urged the public to cooperate by providing any information that may assist in the case.
