Vehicle Overturns in Aromo Town Board, Leaving 12 Injured

Lira, Uganda – A tragic accident occurred last night at Akaoidebe Cell, Aromo Town Board, when an Isuzu tipper, loaded with dozens of plastic chairs, overturned on its way to a funeral ceremony.

The vehicle, registered under UBP 768Z and driven by local businessman Bosco Owidi, also known as “Dano Pa Dano,” was transporting chairs from Aromo Town Board to Otara Parish.

The incident took place at approximately 9:00 PM, causing chaos and panic among the passengers, who were seated in the back of the truck.

The tipper, which was carrying a full load, lost control and flipped over, injuring 12 individuals.

These victims, all of whom had been helping with the transport of chairs for the funeral, sustained various degrees of injury.

Jasper Ojok, the Chairperson Local Council III of Aromo Town Board, confirmed the incident, describing it as a devastating event for the local community.

“The accident has left several people injured, and we are grateful for the swift response of local health workers,” Ojok stated.

The injured were initially treated at Aromo Health Centre III, though a few with more severe injuries were referred to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for advanced medical care.

Christine Abaru, Officer in Charge of Aromo Police Station, also confirmed the accident.

“The vehicle was detained at the police station as part of ongoing investigations into the cause of the incident,” Abaru said.

Authorities are working to determine whether mechanical failure, human error or road conditions contributed to the accident.

The local community has expressed shock and concern over the accident, especially since the tipper was carrying individuals from the same area who were involved in the funeral preparations.

The quick actions of emergency responders and local healthcare providers have been credited with minimizing further casualties.

Local officials are urging drivers in the area to exercise caution, especially when transporting heavy loads, to prevent further accidents.

Authorities also expressed hope for the recovery of the injured and will continue to provide assistance to those affected by the incident.

This accident serves as a reminder of the dangers that can arise from poorly secured loads and the importance of road safety awareness in the community.
