Speaker of Lira City West Division Daniel Okello in a council meeting held yesterday at former Lira Sub-county headquarters suspended five of his Council Members, accusing them of deliquency and staying silent during Council Meetings for the past two years.

During the Council meeting on Tuesday 7th Nov 2023, Okello suspended Councilor Joyce Akello representing Ober Ward and Sophia Okwanga representing Amuca Ward, for not speaking in the council meetings since they were sworn in in May, 2021. They’ll therefore miss one Council sitting.
Three other Councilors are; Walter Erico – Youth Councilor, Ciprian Otine who’s the Secretary for Production & Marketing, John Charles Opio representing elders were suspended from two Council sittings because they failed to comply with the standard rule of procedure 47 during the Zegan’s Hotel meeting held in September, 2023 that ended in a chaotic way leading to destruction of the hotel chairs.
Walter Erico who’s also the Chairperson Finance, Planning & Administration while speaking to journalists denied allegations of misconduct put on him and said, he won’t obey it since the Speaker didn’t follow the rightful procedure to dismiss them from Council sittings.
