Kampala, Uganda | The Ministry of Works and Transport has suspended the operations of Y.Y Coaches for a period of 15 days following two fatal road crashes involving the company’s buses.

The decision was communicated in an official letter dated 12th May 2025 and signed by the Office of the Minister of State for Transport.
The suspension comes in the wake of two separate but serious accidents, which preliminary police investigations attribute to reckless driving by Y.Y Coaches’ drivers.
The first incident occurred on 5th May 2025 when bus registration number UAV 701C was involved in a fatal crash at Najja village, Buikwe District along the Kampala–Katosi–Jinja Highway.
The crash claimed the lives of three passengers, and findings from the Uganda Police indicate that the driver was at fault and is currently on the run.
In a second incident, bus registration number UAX 852F, en route from Kampala to Yumbe, crashed at Ayango on the Pakwach–Arua Highway.
According to the Uganda Police Force, the driver was attempting to overtake another vehicle when he lost control, resulting in a serious crash.
“The two crashes point to recklessness by your drivers on the road and failure to control the conduct of your drivers, among other managerial concerns,” the Ministry stated in the suspension letter addressed to the Managing Director of Y.Y Coaches.
The Ministry convened a meeting with the company’s management on 12th May 2025 to address these issues.
Following the meeting, a 15-day suspension of all Y.Y Coaches’ operations on all routes was ordered, effective Tuesday, 13th May 2025.
This suspension serves as a firm warning to all transport operators on the need to prioritize passenger safety, enforce driver discipline, and uphold road safety regulations.
The Ministry has not ruled out further action depending on the company’s compliance and the outcome of ongoing investigations.
