Iteso Palace Project Secures $15M in Government Support

Soroti, UgandaThe Iteso Cultural Union (ICU) has formalized a partnership with Ubuntu Consultants to develop the Iteso Palace, a seven-story facility designed to celebrate and sustain Iteso heritage.

The new Iteso Palace will become a center for cultural, educational and governance activities, showcasing a resource center, cabinet hall, conference hall and a luxurious lounge to support community events and public engagement.

With an estimated cost of $15 million, the project has already secured $1.5 million in seed funding from the Ugandan government.

The Iteso Palace Construction Committee chairman, Dr. Otim Peter highlighted the project’s potential impact on the Ateker people, urging all members of the community to support this historic venture.

“This palace is not just about preserving our past; it’s a vision for a united future where Ateker culture thrives,” Dr. Otim shared.

He also praised His Royal Highness Papa Paul Sande Emolot the Emorimor for his dedication to cultural leadership and for laying the groundwork for this ambitious undertaking.

Dr. Pascal Osire, Vice Chairperson of the ICU Construction Committee, announced an upcoming fundraising campaign throughout the Teso region, encouraging all Ateker households to contribute toward the palace’s completion.

He urged caution against potential scams, advising the public to coordinate donations only through ICU-approved leaders.

Architect Ecodu Emmanuel, representing Ubuntu Consultants, explained that the palace’s design will be seven stories tall, reflecting traditional Iteso values and providing spaces for cultural and educational gatherings.

“The Iteso Palace is intended to stand for at least a century, a lasting symbol of pride and resilience for the Ateker people,” he noted.

The collaboration with Ubuntu Consultants marks a key phase in bringing the Iteso Palace to life.

The Iteso Palace is expected to serve as both a symbol of resilience and an engine for community growth, reinforcing the role of cultural institutions in empowering Ugandan society.
