Alebtong, Uganda – Abia Seed Secondary School has emerged as a beacon of academic excellence in Alebtong District, setting high standards in both education and student welfare.
This was confirmed by a recent fact-finding mission conducted on Tuesday March 4, 2025, by Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Ongom Lameck and Deputy RDC Mathias Lutwama.
The field visit was part of the government’s effort to assess the implementation of the NRM manifesto in the education sector.
According to their findings, Abia Seed Secondary has made remarkable progress across key areas, making it a leading institution among the six seed secondary schools in the district.
The school has successfully adopted the new national curriculum, ensuring that students receive a well-structured and modernized education.
This has been made possible by a committed team of 20 government-employed teachers, who have streamlined the new learning approach with precision and effectiveness.
Their dedication has played a pivotal role in shaping the academic success of students at the institution.
One of the most striking observations was the high standard of student welfare, particularly in nutrition.
Unlike many schools struggling with meal provisions, Abia Seed Secondary guarantees its students four quality meals daily: a heavy breakfast to start the day, a nutritious lunch, evening porridge to keep students energized, and a well-balanced supper to end the day
This structured meal plan has created a healthy learning environment, ensuring students remain focused and perform at their best academically.
The government’s effective disbursement of capitation grants per student per term has transformed Abia Seed into a well-funded learning institution.
With sufficient financial support, the school has been able to enhance its infrastructure, maintain high teaching standards, and provide necessary academic resources.
This financial stability has made Abia Seed a sanctuary of learning where students can thrive.
Another key highlight was the quality of student accommodation. Both boys’ and girls’ dormitories are built to high standards, providing a secure and conducive environment for learners.
The well-maintained dormitories ensure students enjoy a comfortable stay, which in turn boosts their academic performance.
In a major boost to science education, Abia Seed Secondary boasts fully furnished laboratories stocked with essential scientific specimens, including barium sulfate, voltmeters, and sodium hydroxide.
These well-equipped labs have allowed students to carry out practical experiments, reinforcing their theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience.
The school’s commitment to excellence was reflected in the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results, where all 35 candidates who sat for the exams achieved Result 1.
The strongest performances were recorded in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, with the majority of students attaining subject grade A.
This outstanding achievement underscores the effectiveness of the school’s teaching methods, resources, and academic programs.
Speaking after the assessment, Deputy RDC Mathias Lutwama commended the school’s administration and teachers for their unwavering commitment to academic excellence.
“Abia Seed Secondary is a clear demonstration of what can be achieved when government support is effectively utilized. The school’s success should serve as a model for other institutions in Alebtong and beyond,” Lutwama stated.
