Kampala, Uganda – Bukoto Central MP Hon. Richard Sebamala has criticized both the Democratic Party (DP) leadership and the National Unity Platform (NUP) for undermining internal democracy ahead of the upcoming elections.
Sebamala challenged NUP’s selection of Counsel Nalukoola as its flag bearer for Kawempe North, arguing that he lacks genuine grassroots support.
He noted that while NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) remains influential, the imposed candidate does not reflect the will of the voters.
“The people of Kawempe North should be allowed to choose their leader. We cannot allow party politics to override the voices of the electorate,” he said.
He instead endorsed Kasacca, calling him the best choice for the constituency and urging an end to politically motivated violence.
Sebamala also took a swipe at DP President Norbert Mao, accusing him of aligning with the ruling government.
He pointed to Mao’s association with figures such as Gen. Salim Saleh, questioning his commitment to opposition values.
“Our party leadership must be clear on where we stand. DP cannot serve two masters,” he stated.
His remarks reflect growing frustration over party democracy and opposition unity as Uganda heads toward another election season.
