Oyam, Uganda – Phillips Ogile Jakayo, the Abok LCIII Chairperson and NRM Publicity Secretary for Oyam District, was arrested and detained at Oyam Central Police Station on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, over an alleged libel crime.

Ogile is accused of falsely accusing Jane Frances Acilo, the Oyam Woman MP aspirant candidate, of kidnapping and murdering Ojok Julius, also known as Ojok Adidit, a resident of ArwotOngo village in Juma Parish, Myene sub-county, Oyam district.

On February 18th, Ogile reportedly used his phone to post on various social media platforms, claiming that Jane Frances Acilo had arrested Ojok in 2018 and subsequently killed him.

This prompted Acilo to report the case of libel against Ogile at Oyam Central Police Station for investigation.

Police immediately summoned Ogile to the district CID office to record his statement, where he was arrested.

He was later released on police bond after his surety, Geoffery Okech, the husband of Susan Apili Okech, one of the Oyam Woman MP contestants standing against Jane Frances Acilo, provided all the necessary documents for the bond.

According to a police officer who preferred to remain anonymous, the investigation into this matter has begun, and Ogile is expected to be produced in court soon to answer the charges against him.

When contacted for a comment after his release on police bond, Ogile refuted the allegations and pledged to continue fighting for the rights of Ojok Julius, whose whereabouts remain unknown to date.

The libel case against Ogile is filed under CRB 135/2025 at Central Police Station, pending investigation.
