Otuke East Member of Parliament Julius Bua Acon has facilitated the distribution of goats to community groups across Otuke District as part of efforts to promote household income generation and livestock-based livelihoods.
The programme, which includes goat management training and prophylactic treatment, has so far reached groups in Oluro, Anyalima, Amunga, Oget, Omwonyolee, and Ogwete parishes.
Among the beneficiaries are Gwokyao VSLA Group in Oluro Parish, which has 50 members; Odongo Kenwa VSLA Group in Anyalima with 47 members; Nen Anyim VSLA Group in Amunga with 50 members; Ilima Ikec VSLA Group in Oget with 56 members; Oribcing VSLA Group in Omwonyolee with 50 members; and Omare Wunu Women’s Group in Ogwete with 51 members.
During the latest disbursement in Amunga Parish, Nen Anyim VSLA Group received 50 female goats and one male goat. In Ogwete Parish, Omare Wunu Women’s Group received 51 female goats and one male goat.
Under the arrangement, each member of a beneficiary group receives one female goat, while the group receives an additional male goat to facilitate breeding and multiplication of the animals.
The programme also provides training on goat management and prophylactic treatment to help beneficiaries maintain the health of their livestock.
According to programme figures, 11 of the 15 targeted groups have so far received their goats, while two more groups are scheduled to receive theirs the following week.
A total of 765 goats are planned for distribution to the 15 groups in 2026, bringing the programme closer to its intended coverage across the constituency.
The initiative is intended to provide beneficiaries with an income-generating asset that can multiply over time and potentially support household incomes through livestock production.
