Alebtong, Uganda – The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Alebtong, Mathias Lutwama, has on Monday 27th January 2025, officially launched a fresh NRM registration and update exercise, aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots membership.
The event, held at the NRM District Headquarters, brought together Subcounty registrars from all 14 local government units in the district.
During the launch, Lutwama handed over registration tools to be distributed across the district’s 726 polling stations to facilitate the exercise.
Speaking to the assembled registrars and party leaders, he urged them to approach the task with dedication and integrity, emphasizing its importance in advancing the NRM’s revolutionary mission.
“Dear members of the revolutionary party, in line with Section 6(1) of the National Resistance Movement Constitution, I implore you to take this noble task of registering willing members as a sanctified duty in advancing the ethos of nationalism,” Lutwama stated.
He called on the registrars to guard against any malpractices that could undermine the credibility of the process, reminding them that those who perform well would be acknowledged as true party vanguards.
The ceremony was graced by Assistant RDC Alebtong Ongom Lameck, NRM Administrator Olwa Richard, and District NRM Registrar Odyang Isaac, who echoed Lutwama’s call for transparency and diligence in executing the exercise.
Alebtong currently boasts a membership of 120,000 registered NRM members, a figure that is expected to grow significantly through this initiative.
The exercise is designed to:
1. Update the NRM yellow register to reflect active and committed members.
2. Facilitate fresh registration for those interested in joining the party.
The registration will take place at the village level polling stations, ensuring accessibility for all willing participants.
Registration Timelines and Logistics
Duration: Monday, 27th January to Saturday, 1st February 2025.
Time: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily.
Venue: Village-level polling stations.
Lutwama emphasized that the exercise should not only meet logistical targets but also strengthen the party’s grassroots structures in preparation for future elections.
He highlighted the importance of instilling discipline and professionalism in all aspects of the process to uphold the party’s values.
This registration exercise is part of broader efforts to solidify NRM’s dominance in Alebtong and the Lango sub-region.
Lutwama’s remarks reinforced the need for registrars and local leaders to embrace their role as custodians of the party’s revolutionary ideals.
The Deputy RDC assured participants that their efforts would play a critical role in shaping the NRM’s trajectory and called on them to deliver exceptional results.
The launch marks a significant step in reinforcing the NRM’s presence in Alebtong and ensuring that its membership base reflects the district’s unwavering support for the party’s agenda.
