Alebtong, Uganda | The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Alebtong District, Mathias Lutwama, has ordered the arrest of the NRM Chairperson for Aloi Town Council over the alleged embezzlement of Shs14.2 million meant for party flag bearers and leaders ahead of the forthcoming Local Council one elections.
According to Lutwama, complaints were lodged by NRM flag bearers from Aloi Town Council on the night of July 21, 2026, alleging that the money allocated to them had been drastically reduced, with each beneficiary reportedly receiving only half of the amount they were entitled to. The complaints prompted immediate intervention by the Deputy RDC, who launched efforts to resolve the matter.
Lutwama reportedly summoned the NRM Chairperson for Aloi Town Council, Sam Otiti, and urged him to refund the allegedly misappropriated funds. During an NRM baraza held on Tuesday, Otiti is said to have acknowledged the complaints and promised to return the money to the affected beneficiaries.
However, the suspect allegedly switched off his mobile phone after leaving the meeting and went into hiding, prompting the Deputy RDC to order his arrest in line with President Yoweri Museveni’s directive to intensify the fight against corruption and misuse of public resources.
Police later apprehended the suspect, who was handed over to Aloi Police Station, where a case was registered under SD 13/22/07/2026. He is being investigated over the alleged theft of Shs14.2 million intended for NRM flag bearers in Aloi Town Council.
The development comes just days before the NRM grassroots electoral exercise, with the Village Women Council elections scheduled for July 23, 2026, while the Local Council I (LC1) Chairperson elections will follow on July 28, 2026.
