Kampala, Uganda – Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially recalled Dickson Ogwang Okul from his position as Foreign Service Officer Grade II at Uganda Embassy in Sudan.

This follows allegations of misconduct, including a controversial incident at Lango Cultural Centre.

In a letter issued by Vincent Waiswa Bagire, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ogwang Okul has been directed to report immediately to the ministry’s headquarters in Kampala and hand over his duties as per section F–D of the Uganda Public Service Standing Orders, 2021.

Bagiire confirmed that the accounting officer at the Ugandan Embassy in Khartoum has been tasked with facilitating Ogwang Okul’s transition back to Uganda.

Details of his replacement or interim leadership at the Khartoum embassy are yet to be announced.

Ogwang Okul’s recall comes on the heels of an incident at the Lango Cultural Centre in which he allegedly brandished a firearm at a gathering of Lango clan leaders.

The meeting was held to prepare for the Ateker Reunion Delegation, which will represent the Lango community in Soroti City.

The incident has sparked widespread concern, with many questioning the ambassador’s conduct.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with authorities promising to take appropriate action based on the findings.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not disclosed further details regarding the decision to recall Ogwang Okul, stating only that the matter is under review.

“We are committed to upholding the integrity of Uganda’s diplomatic service,” the ministry stated in a brief press release.

While no official charges have been filed against Ogwang Okul, the investigation could determine his future within Uganda’s public service.
