Alebtong, Uganda – Alebtong District security operatives have arrested Amugu Agro Technical Institute’s Acting Principal, Okite Richard and Bursar, Apio Lucy, over the alleged mismanagement of UGX 80 million.
The two were detained at Alebtong Central Police Station (CPS) pending further investigation by the Anti-Corruption Unit.
According to Alebtong Deputy Resident District Commissioner Mathias Lutwama, security forces launched an investigation a week ago after receiving a tip-off from whistleblowers regarding financial irregularities at the government institution.
Following scrutiny of bank statements, it was confirmed that UGX 80 million was unaccounted for, triggering unrest among students over poor welfare conditions.
In response, Amugu Agro Technical Institute’s board convened two meetings, summoning Okite and Apio to explain the missing funds.
However, Apio fled before she could be interrogated, intensifying suspicions of financial malpractice. Security forces immediately launched a manhunt, leading to their arrest today.
Lutwama emphasized that the crackdown on corruption remains a top priority for security operatives in Alebtong.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to combating fraud in public institutions, ensuring accountability and upholding the law.
“The suspects will be charged under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act,” Lutwama stated, confirming that the case will proceed in accordance with legal provisions.
