Apac Leaders Warn Parents, Teachers Over School Absenteeism

Apac, Uganda – Apac District leaders have issued a strong warning to parents, teachers and students over school absenteeism, vowing to take tough action against those failing to prioritize education.

During a radio talk show on Radio Apac, on the 10th February, 2025, Sam Opira, the Secretary for Education and Health in Apac District, urged parents to enroll their children in local schools instead of sending them to distant institutions in Lira and Kampala.

He emphasized that schools in Apac are not only affordable but also willing to accommodate parents facing financial difficulties.

He advised parents to negotiate with schools rather than keeping their children at home due to financial challenges.

Meanwhile, Apac Deputy Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) Jonal Okot took a firm stance, vowing to arrest parents who fail to send their children to school.

He also warned that children found loitering at home during school hours would face consequences.

In addition, Okot expressed frustration with teachers who remain at home instead of attending to their duties in schools while still receiving government salaries.

He revealed that during an operation in Apac Subcounty, many teachers fled upon seeing enforcement officers.

However, he vowed to launch another operation soon to ensure that all absentee teachers are held accountable.

The warning from Apac leaders comes as authorities push for improved education standards in the district, emphasizing that both parents and teachers must fulfill their responsibilities to secure a brighter future for the children.
