Kaberamaido Assistant Resident District Commissioner Arikos Peter has urged young people to embrace sport as a means of promoting unity, discipline, talent development and peaceful coexistence in communities.
Arikos made the call on Sunday while officiating the final of an inter-village football tournament held at Kaberamaido Technical Institution (KTI) in Kobulubulu Sub-county.
The week-long tournament brought together six village teams from Kabalqueru Parish, with group-stage matches starting on Monday before the competition climaxed with the finals on Sunday.
The losers’ match was played at 2:00pm, followed by the main final between Ogobai Village and Abata Village from 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
Ogobai Village emerged champions of the tournament after defeating Abata in the final.
Arikos commended the organisers, participating villages, players and supporters for making the competition a success, noting that community sporting activities provide young people with an opportunity to interact, showcase their talents and develop teamwork.
He also encouraged communities to continue organising similar initiatives, saying sports can contribute to strengthening social cohesion and peaceful relations among young people.
The tournament was held at KTI, located at Corner Lugwara, an area now commonly known as Corner Ogobai, in Kobulubulu Sub-county.
The competition brought together residents from the participating villages, with the final marking the culmination of a week of football activities in the parish.
