Church of Uganda Mourns Pope Francis, Remembers His Legacy

Kampala, Uganda – The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has extended heartfelt condolences to Ugandan Roman Catholics and believers across the globe following the passing of Pope Francis.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Church of Uganda, Archbishop Kaziimba praised the late Pontiff’s spiritual leadership and remembered his significant contributions to faith and humanity.

“As we prepare for the celebration of the Ugandan Martyrs, we especially remember the Pope’s visit to Uganda in 2015 and his appreciation for the Uganda Martyrs Museum at the Anglican site in Namugongo,” the Archbishop said.

During that visit, Pope Francis unveiled a dedication stone at the Uganda Martyrs Museum and offered a prayer for the youth, expressing his hope that the example of the Uganda Martyrs would inspire generations to follow Christ.

Archbishop Kaziimba noted that Pope Francis would be remembered for his deep commitment to the youth, his unwavering pro-life stance and his advocacy for the poor and marginalized.

“He fought the good fight; he finished the race; he kept the faith. Now he, who longed for our Lord’s appearing, receives the crown of righteousness,” Archbishop Kaziimba concluded, quoting Scripture in tribute to the Pope’s enduring faith and legacy.

The statement has been widely shared among Anglican and ecumenical circles, highlighting a moment of unity and mutual respect between Christian communities in mourning.
