Lira City, Uganda – Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, Woman MP Lira City, has urged farmers in Lira City to embrace income-generating farming practices.
Speaking during a recent event where she handed over hand walking tractors to two cooperative societies in Lira City East and Lira City West Divisions, she ncouraged farmers to cultivate high-value crops such as yams and coffee.
Aceng Ocero emphasized the importance of sustainable agriculture in improving livelihoods and fostering economic growth.
As part of her ongoing commitment to the farmers of Lira City, Aceng Ocero delivered on her promise made during her 2021 manifesto to provide tractors, aimed at elevating the lives of local farmers.
Despite initial obstacles in securing the distribution of tractors to cities, she has vowed to advocate for their inclusion in future initiatives led by the Ministry of Agriculture, ensuring that urban farmers also have access to the necessary resources to thrive.
Representatives from the Abur Lango Cooperative Society and the Amuca Coffee Producers and Marketing Cooperative Society LTD expressed their gratitude for Aceng Ocero’s continued support and pledged to make the best use of the tractors to enhance farming efficiency and output.
The event also highlighted the significant strides made by cooperative members, particularly in cultivating high-value crops, such as yams, that have substantially improved their incomes and enabled them to better support their families.
Local leaders, including Kasanda John Steven, Town Clerk of Lira City East Division, and George Okello Ayo, Mayor of Lira City East Division, encouraged constituents to recognize Aceng Ocero’s invaluable contributions to Lira City and support her continued leadership.
In addition to the distribution of hand walking tractors, Aceng Ocero provided mama kits to pregnant mothers and gumboots to each member of the cooperative societies, reaffirming her dedication to holistic community development and the well-being of Lira City’s residents.
