Alebtong, Uganda | Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Alebtong, Mathias Lutwama, together with Assistant RDC Ongom Lameck, conducted a field inspection of the Moroto Women Entrepreneurs SACCO Group, now recognized as the best-performing Emyooga group in the Lango subregion by Microfinance Uganda.

The inspection on Friday, 9th May 2025, revealed outstanding progress in savings, asset management, and equitable loan distribution, positioning the SACCO as a model of financial discipline and rural empowerment.

Under the leadership of Councillor Grace Abalo, the SACCO has mobilized personal savings totalling UGX 50 million.

These are contributions made directly by individual women into the group’s bank account, forming the base of a revolving fund that supports business expansion.

The SACCO consists of seven associations: Akwangkel, Olailong, Oteno, Abiting, Amonomiru, Akura, and Obim.

During the inspection, women gave testimonies on how the low-interest loans have enabled them to grow their businesses in chicken rearing, goat and sheep keeping, and cattle farming.

The affordable repayment terms have ensured sustainability and high recovery rates.

According to the group’s financial records and account books, loans are distributed equitably without discrimination based on status or leadership position.

Access to loans is strictly based on savings and shareholding, in line with government regulations.

The SACCO practices the principle of multiplier effect in asset utilization.

Income-generating properties such as tents, chairs, and buildings are hired out, with proceeds fully accounted for and reinvested to boost group profitability.

The group’s total asset value has surged to UGX 60 million, a rare milestone for a rural SACCO.

The assets include income-generating equipment and properties acquired through savings and business income.

Microfinance Uganda has ranked Moroto Women Entrepreneurs SACCO as the top-performing Emyooga SACCO in the Lango subregion, citing its structure, savings culture, and transparent financial management.

Deputy RDC Mathias Lutwama commended the leadership and members for their commitment to economic transformation at the grassroots level.
