Dokolo, Uganda – Joseph Jones Ogwal Omara, the leading Member of Parliament aspirant for Dokolo North County, has demonstrated strong commitment to supporting the boda boda community by providing a comprehensive package of road safety gear, financial backing and developmental resources.

During a community event held at his residence in Rego Rego, Amwoma Subcounty, on April 5, 2025, Ogwal Omara fulfilled several promises he had made in earlier meetings with boda boda riders.

At the gathering, he distributed 300 reflector jackets to boda boda riders from various stages across Adok Subcounty, Agwata Subcounty, Agwata Town Council, Amwoma Subcounty, Bata Subcounty and Bata Town Council.

The jackets are intended to improve rider visibility on the roads, particularly during the low-light hours of 6am and 6pm, when the majority of road accidents involving boda bodas occur.

In addition to the jackets, Ogwal Omara delivered UGX 1 million to the Rego Rego Boda Boda SACCO, fulfilling an earlier pledge to provide financial support.

He further promised to supply football uniforms for friendly matches between Rego Rego Boda Bodas and Booster Boda Bodas, with the kits expected to arrive in the coming week.

To aid in the construction of Rego Rego boda boda stage, Ogwal Omara also pledged to donate four iron sheets.

These contributions were enthusiastically received and marked the first direct support of this scale from a political aspirant in Dokolo North.

Okao Felix, a representative of the Rego Rego Youth Motorcycle Association, expressed gratitude for the engagement, stating that their group, which now boasts over 200 members and 10 loaders, has never before experienced such direct interaction with a politician at his residence.

He praised Ogwal Omara for reaching out, believing that the aspirant will remember them when elected.

Okao also urged the community to continue supporting their savings group.

Geoffrey Odur, the Local Council III Chairperson of Amwoma Subcounty, commended Ogwal Omara for the initiative to distribute reflector jackets, highlighting that the initiative would significantly reduce motorcycle-related accidents.

He also urged the community to offer full support to Ogwal Omara’s bid for parliament.

In his address, Ogwal Omara emphasized the rising incidence of road accidents in Dokolo North, especially along the Aminkwach Swamp to Abutadii stretch, where at least one person dies every month.

He noted that 70% of these accidents involve boda bodas, either as victims or causers.

To address this issue, he launched his road safety initiative, which includes the distribution of reflective gear and educational programs for riders.

He also encouraged boda boda riders to form and register SACCOS and associations to streamline support from the government, politicians and other well-wishers.

Ogwal Omara’s approach aligns with the vision of President Yoweri Museveni, who has consistently supported boda boda associations across Uganda through funding, training programs, and the provision of safety gear.

He believes that with proper organization and unity, boda boda riders in Dokolo North can access similar support and contribute to local development.

He called on riders to support the NRM government under President Museveni, recognizing the boda boda sector as a powerful mobilization tool.

Ogwal Omara also pledged ongoing support to the Rego Rego SACCO and encouraged riders to unite by forming a Dokolo North-wide Boda Boda Association to amplify their collective voice.

Otim George, a Rego Rego resident, praised Ogwal Omara for bringing meaningful political engagement to their doorstep.

He urged fellow riders to mobilize and support him with full energy.

Odyek Denis, Ogwal Omara’s personal assistant, encouraged riders to act as messengers for Ogwal Omara and rally voters for his victory in both the NRM primaries and the 2026 general elections.

Sammy Ogwang warned against repeating past mistakes and stressed that only Ogwal Omara has demonstrated the ability and commitment to bring true development to Dokolo North.

Eveline Ocen, the women’s coordinator for Ogwal Omara, echoed this sentiment, calling for unity and action among boda boda riders to ensure Ogwal Omara’s success.
