Dokolo’s Kangai to Host Southern African Tourism Delegation in Modern Heritage Showcase

Dokolo, Uganda | The historic Kangai site in Dokolo District will on 26th August 2025 welcome a delegation of ten influential figures from Southern Africa in a cultural and heritage showcase aimed at promoting Uganda’s tourism.

In a letter dated 12 August 2025, addressed to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Dokolo District Local Government, the visit, organised by the High Commission of the Republic of Uganda in Pretoria, will begin at 10:00 am with a guided tour of Kangai, where Kabaka Mwanga of Buganda and Omukama Kabalega of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom were captured while fleeing British colonial forces in 1899.

The programme will feature traditional cultural dances and cuisine before the delegation proceeds to Adwoki Technical Institute in Agwata Subcounty at 11:00 am for performances by four cultural troupes.

The group will depart for Kampala at 2:00 pm.

The event forms part of a 10-day tourism familiarization trip running from 18th to 28th August 2025 for select personalities from sports, athletics, media, and the travel industry across the Southern African market.

The wider itinerary includes visits to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Murchison Falls National Park, among other attractions.

Uganda’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Ambassador Paul Amoru, said the mission would capture promotional content and showcase the richness of Uganda’s tourism offerings to boost the country’s visibility in Southern Africa.

The High Commission has urged district leaders, including Members of Parliament, the Resident District Commissioner, local council chairpersons, the District Police Commander, religious leaders, and cultural heads to mobilise for the event.

The familiarization trip is part of Uganda’s ongoing strategy to leverage high-profile endorsements and regional media exposure to attract more visitors and strengthen the tourism sector’s contribution to the economy.
