Kampala, Uganda | Dr. Mercy Lakisa has officially entered the race to represent Alebtong District as Woman Member of Parliament after picking up her expression of interest forms from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party headquarters in

Wearing a bright yellow dress that reflected her loyalty to the party, Dr. Lakisa arrived at the NRM electoral commission offices on 12 June 2025 in the afternoon to express her commitment to lead the people of Alebtong through what she described as transformative and energetic leadership.
Following the issuance of her nomination forms, Dr. Lakisa remarked that the time had come for new leadership grounded in service and development.
She appealed to the people of Alebtong to embrace her vision and vote for a leadership change that addresses their real needs.
Dr. Lakisa enters the race with a record of impactful service, particularly in the health sector.
She recently organized a free medical camp in Alebtong District, where over 4,000 residents accessed essential health services.
Her involvement in socio-economic transformation has included supporting youth groups with piggery projects and training local youth leaders to promote innovation and community development.
She has also played a key role in enhancing infrastructure by contributing to the construction and rehabilitation of roads, repair of boreholes, and the renovation of churches and schools—initiatives aimed at improving access, service delivery, and cohesion within the district.
With prior experience as National Vice Chairperson of the Uganda National Students’ Association (UNSA) and as Vice Guild President at Makerere University, Dr. Lakisa has steadily built her political credentials.
She currently serves as a notable figure within the youth wing of the NRM, where she is praised for her mobilization abilities and commitment to youth empowerment.
Her campaign is guided by the slogan “Apidi awie yot”—Through this message, she has gained broad support from youth organizations, women’s groups, and community leaders who view her as a symbol of generational transition and progressive leadership.
Dr. Lakisa expressed optimism about her chances in the upcoming NRM primaries, where she will face incumbent MP Dorcus Acen and former contestant Christine Acen.
She conveyed confidence in her ability to defeat both rivals, citing her grassroots support and development record.
