Lira, Uganda | A total of 34 suspects have been arrested in separate police operations conducted in Lira City East Division and Oyam District as security agencies intensify efforts to combat rising criminal activities across the North Kyoga region.
According to the North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema,the operation in Lira City East Division was led by the Division Police Commander and targeted crime hotspots around Uhuru Bar and Angwetangwet during the night of 5 July 2026.
Police arrested 26 suspects following intelligence reports linking the areas to increasing cases of robbery, assault, rape and house break-ins.
Okema said the suspects are currently in police custody in Ireda central police station as investigations continue.
He added that those found innocent will be released, while those implicated in criminal activities will be arraigned in court.
In a related operation conducted the same night in Kamdini Town Council, Oyam District police arrested eight more suspects during a crackdown targeting suspected criminals accused of robbery,assault and housebreaking.
SP Okema said the operations are part of an ongoing campaign to restore law and order and warned that similar crackdowns will continue across the North Kyoga region.
Police have urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information to help identify and apprehend criminals operating within their communities.
