The Government Chief Whip and Lira City Woman Member of Parliament, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, on Wednesday, inspected newly completed projects at Lira Regional Referral Hospital, praising the hospital’s Board and Management for successfully delivering key infrastructure aimed at improving healthcare services. The projects are set to be officially commissioned on Thursday.

Dr. Aceng was received by the Acting Principal Hospital Administrator, Ms. Monica Akello Oyet, Senior Consultant Paediatrician Dr. William Oyang, alongside hospital staff and caregivers. She toured the newly completed 220-metre Hospital Lane, formerly Police Road, the Infectious Isolation Unit, the covered canopy, the Eye Unit, and the expanded Outpatient Department of the hospital’s private wing.

Speaking after the inspection, Dr. Aceng said she was impressed by the transformation taking place at the referral facility, noting that the new developments would improve efficiency and enhance service delivery. She said the projects had significantly improved the hospital’s physical outlook while creating a more organised environment for patients and staff.

“I want to congratulate the Hospital Director together with the entire hospital staff for this good work that has been done. It has also given visibility to the infrastructure along the former Police Road and strengthened the outlook of the Regional Referral Hospital,” Dr. Aceng said.

Reflecting on her time as Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Aceng said the long-term vision remains to transform Lira Regional Referral Hospital into a specialised referral facility capable of providing advanced healthcare services to the region. She also pledged to use her new office as Government Chief Whip to lobby for more funding and development for the hospital and other priority sectors.

Ms. Monica Akello Oyet, the Acting Principal Hospital Administrator, said the hospital fraternity was honoured to host the Government Chief Whip and appreciated her encouraging remarks about the progress made. She noted that Dr. Aceng’s visit had boosted the morale of staff ahead of the commissioning of the completed projects.

Oyet added that the Chief Whip particularly commended the hospital’s cleanliness, describing it as one of the institution’s defining strengths. She said the culture of maintaining high sanitation standards was introduced by Dr. Aceng during her tenure at the hospital before she was appointed Director General of Health Services and continues to guide service delivery at the facility.
