Amolatar, Uganda – Kioga County parliamentary aspirant, Dr. Col. John Francis Ongia, has continued his efforts to support the community by rehabilitating broken boreholes in his constituency.

His latest initiative saw him visit Aceng-Oryema village in Awikori Parish, Acii Sub County and Namasale Primary School in Namasale Town Council on 4th March, 2025, where he spent over UGX 3.7 million on equipment to restore access to clean water.Â
The intervention comes after years of water scarcity in the affected areas, leaving residents struggling to access safe drinking water.
Many had resorted to unsafe sources, putting their health at risk.Â
Angela Oyo, a resident, shared her experience, explaining how the situation deteriorated over the years.Â
David Odora, another resident from a neighboring village, expressed frustration over repeated attempts to seek help from leaders, which had gone unanswered.Â
Several residents echoed similar sentiments, describing the hardship they faced due to the lack of clean water.
Many were forced to fetch water from unsafe sources, increasing their vulnerability to waterborne diseases.Â
Imat Hellen Ogango Siberio, an elderly woman in her late 70s, narrated how she had no choice but to consume unsafe water for the past five years.Â
The borehole had reportedly broken down during the COVID-19 period and remained non-functional due to a lack of funds for repairs.
Without a community fund to maintain it, the structure deteriorated further, leaving residents in dire need.Â
Dr. Ongia’s intervention has brought much-needed relief to the affected communities.
His commitment to improving water access aligns with his broader vision of addressing pressing community challenges in Kioga County.Â
Residents expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that access to clean water will significantly improve their daily lives and overall well-being.Â
Community members hope for continued support to maintain the boreholes and prevent future breakdowns.
