Kampala, Uganda | The 13th edition of the Kabaka Birthday Run has received a financial boost after Hon. David Calvin Echodu, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairman for Eastern Region and MP-elect for Soroti City West, purchased official run kits worth UGX 5 million.
The kits were delivered through his legal representatives, Counsel James Banoba and Isaac Semanyi, as Echodu attends the ongoing NRM Parliamentary Retreat at the National Leadership Institute (NALI), Kyankwanzi.
The annual run, which will be held at Lubiri, Mengo on Sunday, April 12, 2026, marks the 71st birthday of His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II and aims to mobilize men in the fight against HIV/AIDS, with a target of ending the epidemic by 2030.
This year’s event is themed “Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child and the Fight to End HIV/AIDS by 2030” and is expected to attract over 120,000 participants across 5km, 10km, and 21km categories.
According to the organizers, the contribution from Hon. Echodu adds to the growing support for one of Uganda’s most prominent health advocacy events.
Echodu, who has in previous years supported similar initiatives, has consistently participated in and contributed to the Kabaka Birthday Run and other charitable runs aimed at promoting public health and community welfare.
Speaking through his representatives, Echodu reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that advance public health and cultural heritage, noting the importance of collaboration between leaders, institutions, and communities in driving national development.
He also emphasized continued cooperation with cultural institutions, including the Buganda Kingdom, in advancing shared development and social causes.
The Kabaka Birthday Run remains one of Uganda’s largest health-focused events, drawing widespread participation in support of HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention efforts.
