Echodu Storms Bunyoro, Wins Delegate Support in Bid for NRM Eastern Vice Chairmanship

Kakumiro, Uganda | David Calvin Echodu, the Soroti City West NRM flag bearer and aspirant for NRM Vice Chairperson Eastern Region, has secured strong backing from Bunyoro delegates following a mobilisation visit to Kakumiro District.

Echodu’s visit, part of his broader campaign to consolidate support across regions, was marked by calls for renewed energy within party structures and a focus on grassroots empowerment.

The delegates welcomed his message, describing it as timely and aligned with the evolving needs of the party.

He told the gathering that the NRM must prioritise results-oriented leadership, stating that the time for promises without delivery was over.

He said he believes in action, not rhetoric, and emphasised the need to reinvigorate the party’s local base to remain relevant and responsive to citizens’ needs.

Echodu also expressed his commitment to advancing President Yoweri Museveni’s vision by ensuring that government programs are effectively implemented at the grassroots level.

He added that empowering local mobilisers with the right tools and resources was key to sustainable party growth.

Area MP Josephert Tumwesigye commended Echodu’s leadership credentials and assured him of his support. He said the party needs practical leaders who can translate policy into impact.

Ambassador Nelson Ocheger echoed the sentiments, noting Echodu’s significant contributions to strengthening the party in Teso sub-region.

During the meeting, veteran delegate Arinaitwe Linda publicly declared her shift in allegiance from the incumbent, citing unfulfilled promises.

She said she was now backing Echodu, whom she described as a committed and courageous leader who had defied critics and demonstrated competence.

The delegates unanimously endorsed Echodu as their candidate for the Eastern Region Vice Chairmanship position, signalling growing momentum for his campaign ahead of the NRM’s internal elections.

Kazura Gabriel, Vice Chairperson of the NRM Workers League, called on Echodu to prioritise long-neglected communities, while representatives from the Youth League requested support for youth leaders at the national level.

Echodu’s rising popularity among grassroots leaders is expected to influence NRM’s internal dynamics in the run-up to the 2026 elections, as calls for generational leadership and accountability continue to shape the political landscape.
