Soroti, Uganda  Engineer Kenneth Muhumuza, ERA’s Eastern Region Supervisor, reassured stakeholders during a recent meeting in Soroti that the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) is committed to monitoring power fluctuations and addressing complaints promptly.

In the meeting held on 31 March, 2025, which included security officials at Timisha Hotel-Soroti, Muhumuza highlighted the government’s efforts to stabilize the electricity supply and enhance its reliability.

He revealed that part of the government’s strategy includes attracting industrial investors to absorb excess power, which in turn will help improve network stability across the country.

Muhumuza emphasized that the collaboration between ERA and security personnel is critical in ensuring effective electricity management, particularly in protecting public infrastructure.

He encouraged the public to report issues such as damaged poles, broken wires, and abandoned infrastructure in a timely manner to avoid safety hazards.

ERA’s reforms include a more efficient electricity payment system, with customers now able to make direct payments for services to the provider.

Broken poles and meters will be replaced at no additional cost, with a nominal service fee applied.

Additionally, Muhumuza addressed several challenges that ERA is working to resolve, including illegal power connections, vandalism, and unreliable network performance, especially during adverse weather conditions.

He reassured stakeholders that ERA is closely monitoring the situation and responding to complaints as quickly as possible.

The meeting also covered concerns raised by security officials, including the need for ERA offices in every region to improve service delivery, government intervention to support public hospitals with electricity costs and delays in connecting new customers.

Muhumuza acknowledged these issues and assured the public that ERA is dedicated to improving service delivery, ensuring reliable power and fostering a safer, more sustainable electricity sector.

The reforms introduced by ERA are a significant step towards streamlining electricity access, empowering consumers with a clearer complaints and claims process and enhancing the overall quality of service.
