Kampala, Uganda | Police in Kampala have arrested a 39-year-old man following a deadly attack at a daycare centre in Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division, that left four young children dead.
According to the Uganda Police Force, officers from Ggaba responded to a distress call at about 11:00am on Thursday, April 2, 2026, reporting that an individual had allegedly attacked children at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Programme.
The suspect, identified as Okello Christopher Onyum, was apprehended at the scene and is currently in police custody.
Preliminary findings indicate that four minors, all pupils at the daycare centre, died during the incident.
The deceased have been identified as: Eteku Gideon, a two-year-old boy, Kaise Alungat, a two-year-old girl, Ignatius Sserwange, a three-year-old boy and Ryan Odeke, a two-year-old boy.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind the attack, as well as the suspect’s background and any other circumstances that may have contributed to the incident.
“This is a deeply disturbing and we are committed to ensuring that justice is served,” police said in a statement.
Authorities extended condolences to the bereaved families and assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway.
