Fresh Police Shake-Up Sees Key Officers Exit, New Commanders Take Charge in North Kyoga

Lira, Uganda | A major reshuffle within the Uganda Police Force has ushered in new leadership across critical units in North Kyoga Region, with several senior officers exiting and others taking over strategic command positions.

The changes, effected by the Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, signal a shift in operational command, particularly in the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), traffic, and ICT departments.

The exit of D/SSP Daniel Batte, who has been redeployed to Kiira Region as Regional CID Officer, creates room for SP Mugisa Daniel Karter, now confirmed to head CID operations in North Kyoga.

His appointment places him at the centre of crime intelligence and investigations in the region.

In another key move, SSP Twala Peter has been deployed to Lira to oversee the Duty Free Shop and Supermarket, replacing SP Okalany Pius, who has been transferred to Nsambya.

The transition reflects internal restructuring within the police’s welfare and commercial units.

At the operational level, ASP Awio Darius assumes the role of Regional Police Standards Unit officer, tasked with enforcing discipline and professionalism among officers.

Station-level command has also changed hands, with ASP Kangave Paul moving to Namayingo CPS and ASP Arop Richardson shifting to Kwania.

The reshuffle further touches the traffic department, where ASP Asiimwe Alex takes over in Otuke, while ASP Akello Miriam exits the district for Kyankwanzi in a similar capacity—moves expected to influence road safety enforcement in both areas.

In the technology wing, SP Musega Peter has been reassigned to North Kyoga as Regional ICT Officer, swapping roles with SP Baguma Nicholas, who heads to Kidepo. Meanwhile, ASP Twinamasiko Ismail joins the region as Motor Transport Officer.

CID leadership at divisional level in Lira City has also been reinforced, with D/ASP Ayebazibwe Allan and D/ASP Munyerero Godfrey deployed to East and Central divisions respectively, as D/ASP Alitia Amos exits to West Nile Region.

North Kyoga Police spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema, described the transfers as part of routine adjustments aimed at improving effectiveness in policing.

He thanked outgoing officers for their service and called on the incoming team to strengthen the fight against crime and maintain public confidence.

The latest shake-up underscores continued efforts by police leadership to recalibrate command structures and enhance performance across regions.
