Kwania District, Uganda – The Director of Genesis Nursery and Primary School, Robson Odongo, has been arrested in Kwania District for allegedly stealing a bicycle during a Sunday church service on 8 December 2024 at St. Peter’s Cathedral Aduku.
Odongo, 32, a resident of Anywal Village in Adyeda Parish, is accused of stealing a bicycle belonging to Elel Allan, a committed church member.
According to eyewitnesses, Odongo initially attempted to take another bicycle but failed. He then allegedly resorted to snatching Allan’s bicycle.
CCTV footage from the church confirmed the incident, prompting Allan and his wife, Hilder Elel, to report the matter to the police.
Odongo was arrested shortly after and taken to Kwania Central Police Station, where he remains in custody.
When questioned, Odongo admitted to taking the bicycle but claimed he only intended to use it to visit a sick person at the hospital and planned to return it.
The police, however, dismissed his explanation and confirmed that the case is being treated as theft.
The case has been registered under SD Reg: 22/08/12/2024, and Officer-in-Charge Muhindo Moses stated that investigations are ongoing.
“We are working to gather all the facts, and the suspect will appear in court as soon as possible,” Muhindo said.
This incident highlights a troubling trend of thefts at St. Peter’s Cathedral Aduku.
Over the past year, two motorcycles have reportedly gone missing from the church premises, raising concerns about inadequate security measures.

“This is shocking and disgraceful, particularly when the accused is a leader in education. Such acts undermine the trust and respect leaders should uphold,” said one congregant.
