Lira, Uganda – The Rwot Bulu (Youth Leader) Okii Bura of Lira city East Division Area Morish Opio has warned Lango of a possible disaster in cultural settings as youths are uncontrollably engaging in dubious activities.
When visited by our reporter in his clan office Burlobo Ward, Lira City East Division in the morning hours of Thursday December 4th 2024, Opio unwreathed the possibilities of a darker future given the youths involvement in use of unsafe drugs like Marijuana, Extreme Alcoholism plus theft which has unleashed unspeakable pain in their different communities.
Opio feared the Ateker community of Lango will soon remain with no future leaders if the trend continues.
The most outspoken Rwot Bulu cautioned that there is need for a collaboration between the government,stakeholders and cultural institutions to combat the vice in the community.
He added that as Okii Bura Clan, an action is already being taken to arrest and discipline any clan member who is suspected of such unscrupulous activities that is eroding culture and affecting social and economic development negatively.
He however asked the public to not lynch the suspected offenders but to let the local leaders and the security to take charge by arresting them and taking to court meanwhile he also advised the youths to join small businesses to earn money in abid to bring such activities to an end in Lango Subregion.
Meanwhile in the same visit Thomas Ambrose Omara the Jago Tekere of the Okii Bura clan in the same area of Burlobo Ward have asked married couples to avoid domestic violence that reportedly escalates during festive season.
Omara revealed that many families experience a wide range violence including the use of machete which has brought lots of untimely deaths and a good number of divorce cases which leaves the children suffering.
The Jago Atkere of the most outspoken Okii Bura clan has attributed the adversity to Drug abuse, alcoholism and lack of respect for the partners in the Lango Community.
In his concluding remark Thomas Ambrose Omara the Jago Tekere of the Okii Bura and Speaker under The Rwot’s Office told the Okii Bura Clan members and Lango to have a positive mindset towards Christmas celebration as it must bring joy instead of suffering.
