Kampala, Uganda | The Secretary General of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Daudi Kabanda, has strongly criticised Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) president Jimmy Akena following his remarks against the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Kabanda accused Akena of seeking political relevance by attacking Gen. Muhoozi, arguing that such criticism is aimed at attracting public attention rather than addressing national issues.
In a strongly worded statement on his “X” account, Kabanda challenged Akena’s leadership of UPC, alleging that the party no longer has significant grassroots support.
He further claimed that Akena benefits from financial support from the government to maintain the party’s operations.
Kabanda also questioned Akena’s moral authority to criticise national leaders and urged him to focus on strengthening his party instead of engaging in public confrontations.
He said that Akena should stop misleading the public and concentrate on rebuilding UPC, adding that attacking Gen. Muhoozi would not revive his political career.
The exchange follows recent remarks by Akena in which he criticised Gen. Muhoozi over his controversial social media activity on X (formerly Twitter).
Akena described some of the posts as inappropriate and unbecoming of a senior military officer.
He said that, as the CDF and son of President Yoweri Museveni, Gen. Muhoozi bears greater responsibility to exercise restraint in both his language and conduct.
Akena urged the CDF to grow up and use his influence responsibly, warning that inflammatory statements could undermine national unity and public confidence in the security forces.
He added that such actions were an embarrassment to Ugandans and that leaders in sensitive positions must act with discipline and maturity.
Akena also appealed to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to guide his son, urging him to play a fatherly role in counselling Gen. Muhoozi on responsible leadership and public communication.
He stressed that stability and professionalism within the armed forces were essential, especially during politically sensitive periods.
