Kaberamaido, Uganda | Kaberamaido Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC) Arikos Peter has warned headteachers in Kaberamaido District against the illegal practice of sending learners home over school charges, emphasizing that every child has a constitutional right to uninterrupted education under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE) programmes.
Arikos made the remarks while representing the Office of the President at a district education stakeholders’ meeting on behalf of the Senior Resident District Commissioner (SRDC), Godfrey Nyakahuma.
The meeting brought together the District Education Officer (DEO), inspectors of schools, education department staff, headteachers of government and private schools, directors of private schools and other key education stakeholders to discuss measures aimed at improving education standards in the district.
A major focus of the meeting was the government’s suspension of school tours and educational trips following the recent increase in road traffic accidents involving school children. School administrators were urged to fully comply with the directive until further guidance is issued, with learner safety remaining the government’s top priority.
Stakeholders also discussed learner performance, teacher professionalism, school governance, financial accountability, child protection, discipline, sanitation and hygiene, and strengthening collaboration between schools, parents and communities to improve education service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the Office of the President, Arikos reaffirmed the government’s commitment to quality education and called on school leaders to strictly adhere to the law and Ministry of Education and Sports guidelines.
The meeting concluded with stakeholders reaffirming their commitment to strengthen accountability, improve learning outcomes and work together to enhance the quality of education across Kaberamaido District.
