Kwania, Uganda | Kwania North MP, James Ongu Tar has rallied locals living near wetlands to embrace fish farming as a sustainable livelihood enhancing project.
James Ongu Tar made the call at a consultative meeting organized by members of Kwania NRM Pioneer’s Association held at Kwania Resort Hotel in Aduku Town Council.

MP Ongu Tar’s statements come as over 200 groups in Kwania district have taken up fish framing initiatives, according to reports from the district production department.
George Stephenson Toga Ococ a member of this association also an expert on Economic and Project management said they plan to write proposals aligned with government’s climate resilience initiatives, especially for irrigation farming and aquaculture to support livelihoods of local residents.
Eunice Acen Omara, the chairperson of Ka-Iromo Women Produce Cooperative Society in Akali Sub County said the association was started in 2022 and they have been engaging in fish farming, savings, apiary, and poultry farming among others.
George Johnson Ojok Ocen, the district production and marketing officer of Kwania district said many people living along wetlands are engaged in fish farming, with support from the district through distribution of fish fingerlings to different groups.
