Lira, Uganda | Residents of Ireda East Ward in Lira City East Division have welcomed a three-kilometre road rehabilitation project launched today by the division leadership.
The roads being rehabilitated include the Latigo Road and the Omar Corner–Angwen–Boke Road, and according to the Division Town Clerk, the project is being implemented using local revenue.
Residents, including Palata Lugad Opio, Geoffrey Obong of Corner Angwen Lumumba, and Bonny Okwir, expressed gratitude to the leadership of Lira City East Division for prioritizing road improvements.
They only requested that required standards be implemented during rehabilitation so that the road can remain in better condition for some time while enhancing business and movements.
Kenneth Khatuli Waniaye, the Town Clerk of Lira City East Division, said the rehabilitation of the roads will improve business but urge residence to with voluntary tax payments, to enable the delivery of more services to the people.
The Mayor of Lira City East Division, Denis Peter Odongo Odul, said the project is part of a broader development agenda being implemented by the division.
He noted that road rehabilitation, provision of safe water, healthcare services, and education remain key priorities under the division’s five-year development plan.
He called on residents to support government initiatives through tax payment and active participation in development programs.
Ereda East Ward councilors Omara Sarah and Fredrick Wacha praised the division leadership for responding to long-standing concerns over the poor state of roads in the area.
They said work has commenced on Latigo Road and Angwen-Angwen Road, with plans to extend rehabilitation works to other roads in the ward in line with the division’s five-year development strategy.
