Lango Religious Leaders Forum Takes on Cultural Leadership Dispute with Mediation Set for August 8-9, 2024 in Kampala

Lira City, UgandaKey representatives from both sides of the Lango Cultural Leadership Dispute are set to convene in Kampala on August 8-9, 2024 for a comprehensive mediation process.

Orchestrated by the Lango Religious Leaders Forum (LARELEF), this event aims to address and resolve the rift between the Lango Cultural Foundation (Ker Te Kwaro Lango) and the Lango Cultural Institution (Tekwaro A’Lango).

The two-day mediation is scheduled to take place at the Onomo Hotel in Nakasero, with participants arriving on August 7th and departing on the 10th.

Daily sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., providing ample time for discussion and negotiation.

Both parties are expected to bring seven representatives each, with notable figures such as Amb. Dickson Ogwang-Okul from the Lango Cultural Foundation and Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, the Won Nyaci Elect, from the Lango Cultural Institution among the attendees.

Legal counsel, while not counted among the seven representatives, may accompany each party for legal support.

The mediation panel will include at least two members of the Itogo Adwong (Lango Advisory Council), as well as a consultant on dispute resolution nominated by the Honorable Chief Justice of the Republic of Uganda, ensuring diverse perspectives and expertise are brought to the table.

LARELEF has committed themselves to fully fund the mediation process through dedicated funds raised for this specific purpose.

Costs covered include travel expenses, accommodations, refreshments, and mediation logistics, demonstrating the organization’s dedication to achieving a resolution.

A deadline of July 31, 2024 has been set for both parties to submit their delegation compositions.
