Lira, Uganda | Lira Central Nursery and Primary School has been recognized as the Best Employer in Compliance (2026) by the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), standing out as the only learning institution across Lango, Acholi, and West Nile subregions to receive the accolade.

The award was presented during the NSSF Employer Meetings held on March 25, 2026, at Margarita Palace Hotel in Lira City, where institutions demonstrating excellence in statutory compliance and employee welfare for the past 4 Financial Years were honored.

Speaking after receiving the award, Headteacher Okwir Tom described the recognition as a milestone achievement rooted in discipline, teamwork, and adherence to regulatory standards, noting that the school takes pride in maintaining strong compliance and proper management systems.

Lira Central Nursery and Primary School has maintained a strong compliance culture by ensuring that all its 107 staff members, 73 teachers, 26 support staff, and 8 administrators, are fully registered and actively contributing to NSSF.

The school’s Director, Omonya Jerry, emphasized that employee welfare remains central to the institution’s philosophy, stressing that workers should benefit from the institution rather than only the owner.

Under the NSSF arrangement, employees contribute 5% of their salaries, while the school contributes 10%, creating a combined 15% savings plan aimed at securing staff members’ financial future.

The institution has also built a reputation for sound financial management, with salaries consistently paid on time, usually by the 20th or 21st of every month. School leadership reports no complaints from staff regarding delayed payments.

Driven by a long-term vision, the school is undertaking major infrastructure development projects valued at approximately over UGX 700 million. These include the construction of modern classroom blocks, boys’ and girls’ dormitories, and expansion of boarding facilities.

The newly introduced boarding section has already reached full capacity in its first term, prompting plans for further expansion to accommodate up to 600 learners.

Enrollment has grown from about 1,200 pupils in 2024 to approximately 1,500 in Term One of 2026, with expectations of further increase as facilities expand.

School leaders attributed the success to a collective effort involving management, staff, parents, and the wider community. Parents were commended for their continued support and encouraged to remain actively engaged in school activities and learner supervision.

Lira Central Nursery and Primary School was among five institutions from Lango subregion recognized for outstanding compliance. Others included Trays for the Future Lira Branch, Gold Mission EC–Ngetta, Honest Distributors Limited Lira, and Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

Institutions from Acholi and West Nile subregions were also awarded, highlighting growing adherence to compliance standards across Northern Uganda.

The school leadership extended appreciation to the management of the National Social Security Fund for promoting accountability and recognizing institutions that uphold best practices.
