Lira, Uganda – Lira City Comprehensive Secondary School has made a remarkable debut in the recently released 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results, achieving a 100% pass

The results, published by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), highlight the school’s excellence in both sciences and humanities under the New Lower Secondary Curriculum.

The school, which registered 65 candidates, saw all students pass with commendable grades.

Core subjects such as Mathematics, English, Agriculture, and sciences recorded impressive performances, showcasing the school’s commitment to academic excellence.

Several students stood out for their remarkable achievements:

● Okot Patrick Ogal earned C grades in English, Christian Religious Education (CRE), History, Geography, and Agriculture, excelling in Science subjects.

● Ekora Andrew secured C grades in CRE, History, and Geography while maintaining solid passes in other subjects.

● Ogwang Isaac achieved A in History, with B grades in Geography, Chemistry, and Entrepreneurship.

● Kula Innocent shined with an A in Mathematics and Agriculture, demonstrating strong analytical skills.

The school’s performance underscores a balance between sciences and humanities, with a particular emphasis on Agriculture, a subject crucial to Uganda’s economy.

Speaking to our reporter, Okello Peter, one of the school directors and a Physics & Mathematics teacher, expressed pride in the students’ performance.

“This is our first group of candidates, and we are proud to say that all of them passed with Result 1. This means that they are eligible for further studies in professional courses at various learning institutions. Our success is a result of teamwork, commitment, and the dedication of our teaching staff,” Okello stated.

On the impact of UNEB’s New Grading System, Okello noted that it did not affect the students since they were the first cohort under the new curriculum.

“Our focus has been on ensuring that students grasp both theoretical and practical knowledge, which aligns well with the new system,” Okello remarked.

Okello highlighted that the best-performing subjects were sciences, including Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Agriculture.

“None of our students got an ‘E’ grade. The majority scored As, Bs, and Cs, with only a few Ds. This proves that our teaching methods and practical learning approach are yielding results,” he explained.

However, he acknowledged challenges in financing school activities but emphasized that their team of experienced educators managed to navigate these obstacles effectively.

With such an impressive start, Lira City Comprehensive Secondary School is positioning itself as a top-performing institution in the region.

Okello assured parents and stakeholders that the school is committed to continuous improvement.

“We will focus more on strengthening practical lessons, particularly in sciences, to ensure that our students gain skills applicable in real-world careers. Additionally, we plan to invest in teacher training workshops to align with the evolving curriculum demands,” he added.

Parents, students, and the school community have welcomed the results with joy. Many have taken to social media to celebrate, expressing gratitude for the school’s efforts in shaping their children’s future.

As UNEB continues to release results nationwide, Lira City Comprehensive Secondary School’s achievement stands out as a testament to dedication, resilience, and quality education.

With a solid foundation already in place, the school is poised for even greater success in the coming years.
