Lira, Uganda – The Speaker of Lira City Council and Male Workers’ Representative, Patrick Okwir, has called on young people to actively participate in the upcoming elections by contesting for leadership positions across all levels of government.
Okwir noted that many youths continue to perceive political leadership as a preserve for the elderly, a mindset he believes must change if the country is to realize inclusive governance.
He urged the youth to take up positions ranging from Local Council I to mayoral, parliamentary and even presidential seats, saying their participation is vital in influencing decisions and shaping policies that affect their future.
He further encouraged the youth to align themselves with political parties of their choice and take charge of their political destiny, emphasizing that their energy, innovation and fresh perspective are key to transforming leadership at both local and national levels.
The call comes as Uganda enters another election season, with increasing calls for meaningful youth involvement in politics and governance.
